Commercial and industrial battery storage system
Commercial and industrial energy storage for solar systems from SOLARKIT
Welcome if your business wants to become energy independent! Commercial and industrial energy storage systems offer the opportunity to store energy that you generate or purchase at low cost and make it available as ready-to-use energy when you really need it – for example, during peak times or power outages.
Commercial and industrial energy storage systems enable businesses and industrial facilities to manage the electricity they generate or purchase from the grid more flexibly. With battery-based energy storage, electricity can be stored when it is more readily available or cheaper, and then used when operational needs, grid load, or energy market conditions warrant it.
SOLARKIT’s product portfolio offers a wide range of solutions and system components, from smaller commercial systems to scalable industrial energy storage systems with capacities of several hundred kWh. However, when selecting the appropriate BESS, one should not consider only the battery’s nominal capacity: equally important are the required power output, the operation of the PCS, BMS, and EMS, compatibility with the existing solar system, and the intended use.
How is the system structured?
A Battery Energy Storage System is much more than a simple battery: it consists of several components that work together in coordination.
Battery and BMS
The battery modules store energy, while the BMS—Battery Management System—continuously monitors, among other things, the condition, voltage, and temperature of the cells. Solutions based on LFP (lithium iron phosphate) technology are widely used in commercial and industrial systems.
PCS
The PCS (Power Conversion System) handles the power conversion between the battery and the AC grid. Selecting the appropriate power-to-capacity ratio is particularly important, as the same battery capacity can be suitable for entirely different application profiles depending on the PCS power rating.
EMS
The Energy Management System is a key component of the energy storage system’s operation. Based on the configured strategy, the EMS controls when the system should charge, when it should discharge energy, and how it should interact with the solar panel system, consumers, and, where applicable, other energy systems.
Modular or factory-integrated energy storage?
The appropriate system architecture always depends on the project’s requirements. In modular energy storage systems, the battery, PCS, EMS, and other components can be selected individually, taking into account the manufacturers’ compatibility requirements. This provides greater flexibility to meet specific performance, capacity, and system integration requirements.
In contrast, factory-integrated C&I energy storage systems offer pre-coordinated system components. The battery, power electronics, BMS, and, in many cases, the EMS operate as part of a unified system, which can simplify design, installation, and system monitoring.
Our product range includes complete, rack-mounted energy storage systems, batteries, PCS solutions, and the accessories needed to set up the system, all from several well-known manufacturers.
How to Choose the Right Commercial or Industrial Energy Storage System?
When sizing a C&I system, it’s not advisable to compare only the kWh value. Proper system design requires a comprehensive analysis of several factors:
• The facility’s consumption profile and the solar system’s production curve.
• The required charging and discharging power in relation to the desired energy storage capacity.
• Peak shaving or other energy management objectives.
• The AC- or DC-coupled system architecture and compatibility with existing equipment.
• EMS and communication requirements, as well as future scalability.
• The installation environment and operating conditions.
For this reason, two energy storage systems with the same capacity do not necessarily represent the same technical or economic solution.
Does an energy storage system require technical support in addition to the product?
For more complex commercial and industrial projects, selecting the right hardware is only the first step. Due to differences among manufacturers in voltage ranges, system logic, communication protocols, and PCS and EMS solutions, the coordination of components requires special attention as early as the design phase.
SOLARKIT’s services include technical pre-sales support, project-based BESS validation, compatibility checks, PV–BESS simulation, engineering support, as well as installation and commissioning support.

BESS Energy Storage for Solar Farms
In the case of solar farms, energy storage can serve different business and technical purposes than a traditional corporate C&I system. With BESS, the sale of a portion of the generated electricity can be deferred to a later time, allowing energy storage to play a role in optimizing energy market operations and the solar farm’s revenue.
For projects designed for solar farms, it is particularly important to determine the appropriate capacity and power output, ensure EMS integration, address permitting and grid requirements, and evaluate the project’s return on investment.
