This is a three-phase hybrid inverter from the FoxESS H3 Smart series. This is a three-phase hybrid inverter from the FoxESS H3 Smart series. What is it used for?

Primarily for three-phase PV + storage systems in larger households and small-to-medium commercial/industrial (C&I) sites where daily power demand is around 15 kW. It’s a good choice for locations where grid feed-in is limited or not cost-effective, and the goal is to maximize self-consumption. Thanks to its built-in EPS (emergency power supply) function, it can continue to supply designated loads in the event of a power outage, making it suitable for small-scale microgrid-like operation.

How does it work?

The inverter continuously decides what to do with the generated energy: feed it to the load, charge the battery, or feed it into the grid (if permitted). It features three independent MPPT trackers, allowing it to manage three strings with different orientations or lengths separately—which is very practical for rooftop installations. Due to the higher voltage of the HV battery (100–800 V, LFP), charge-discharge losses are lower than in low-voltage systems. In the event of a grid outage, it automatically switches to EPS mode and supplies power to priority circuits from the backup power source.

Technical and System-Level Benefits

On the PV side, it can handle up to 22.5 kW DC (30,000 Wp panel), so it can be generously oversized relative to the 15 kW AC output—this provides better utilization even in winter and on cloudy days. It operates exclusively with FoxESS HV batteries; communication takes place via CAN bus (BMS), and grid management is complemented by a smart meter and support for SG Ready, DRM, and Ripple Control. Monitoring is available via Ethernet, Wi-Fi, LAN, and Bluetooth; 4G is optional. With IP65 protection, it can be installed outdoors; the 15 kW model features active fan cooling (<55 dB).

Differences

Within the series, the 12- and 15-kW models feature active fan cooling, while the 5–10-kW models use passive (natural) cooling and operate more quietly. The 15 kW model has the highest PV capacity and load capacity, but its DC input peaks at 22.5 kW—the same as the 12 kW model—so if extreme oversizing is the goal, it’s worth planning the string configuration in advance.

Important to know

It is compatible exclusively with its own HV battery and cannot be paired with third-party storage systems—this must be treated as a fixed constraint during design. AFCI arc protection is optional only, so if required by the specifications, it must be arranged separately. It does not maintain the specified power output above +45 °C (derating), so it is advisable to size the ventilation for a warm, enclosed technical room.
